FictionGarden.co.uk is changing

We are in the process of updating the format and content of FictionGarden.

 This will still be the place to visit if you enjoy reading or writing prose fiction, but you will notice changes during the course of 2012.  We welcome your input and suggestions, so please let us know what you think, and please do not hesitate to share your ideas with us. 

Helping the World one Word at a Time: Stop Spam, Read Books

if you use one of the forms on FictionGarden.co.uk, perhaps to enter a competition or send us a message, you will be asked to copy two words into a box before sending.  This is an anti-bot facility provided by reCAPTCHA to prevent the generation of automated spam e-mails and help ensure messages come only from genuine web site visitors.

Every time you use this facility, you are also helping to digitize texts that were written before the computer age.  The words you see were taken directly from old texts that are being scanned and stored in digital format in order to preserve them and make them more accessible to the world.  Since some of the words in these texts are difficult for computers to process, reCAPTCHA use the results of your efforts to help decipher them.
